Our Mission

To help the Province realise its goals through prayer and financial support,

and by sending people to serve and encourage the dioceses.

The Province’s Goals:

  • to work for unity among all communities

  • to engage with other faith communities

  • to reach the unreached with the Gospel of Christ

  • to make disciples and develop leaders

  • to serve local communities

Our Activities:

  • Promoting awareness of the Province’s ministry and seeking support for its churches and institutions.

  • Equipping and inspiring FAPA members to pray for the Province.

  • Organising Study Tours and Pilgrimages to the Province. Relaying appeals for financial support and channelling donations to the Province.

  • Liaising with theological colleges training ordinands.

  • Promoting experience exchange schemes for students and ministers.

  • Supporting “cross-cultural placements” in the Province for potential ministers of English-speaking congregations, and for professionals seeking to contribute to lay ministries.

Our Heritage:

  • In the early part of the 20th century, CMS missionaries, including Canon Temple Gairdner and Rev Douglas Thornton, laid the foundation for the Anglican Church in Egypt. In 1955, the Egypt sub-committee of the Egypt and Sudan Church Association (based in London) became a separate association, known as the Egypt Church Association. This in turn, became the Egypt Diocesan Association (EDA) in 1976 when the Province of Jerusalem & the Middle East was created.

  • In 2020 the Province of Alexandria comprising the Dioceses of Egypt, North Africa, the Horn of Africa and Gambella was inaugurated and the Egyptian Diocese Association became the Friends of the Anglican Province of Alexandria (FAPA).

  • EDA, and now FAPA, has adapted over the years to provide support to the dioceses through individuals who leave the area, and through partner churches and organisations who have a heart for seeing God’s Kingdom grow and flourish throughout the region.

  • Membership is open to those who seek to support the ministry of the Province with informed prayer and perhaps, to participate in it’s life and work.
